For an Egyptian, death was but a wondrous journey to a land free of all ill's and pain, poverty and troubles.

Somewhere they could enjoy all the riches they  knew would be theirs in the next life.  Yet such a journey was  fraught with danger.

-----------------------------------

Which was the right road to take?

Who would protect them from the demons and evil spirits that dwelt in all parts of the underworld of the dead?

Questions that made even the strongest man quake at the thought of his spirit being lost forever. Tormented and tortured till eternity, instead of being at peace......

But fear was a passing thing when you knew the way was safe using The Book Of The Dead.  A collection of magical formulas and funerary spells laid out on a roll of papyrus that was placed next to the mummy.The Book Of The Dead.  A collection of magical formulas and funerary spells laid out on a roll of papyrus that was placed next to the mummy.

A guide book to the afterlife that helped the dead find their way safely and in peace.

-----------------------------------

Did his spirit reach it's final destination through such an arduous journey, safe under the spell's provided by the Book Of The Dead ?

Was he looking down as his tomb was desecrated, his body taken away from what was thought to be it's final resting place ?

Our thirst for knowledge is admirable, but do we really understand or care  about those ancient beliefs? Are we so sure of ourselves enough to say;

'It was all superstitious hocus-pocus'

I for one don't intend to. Not as long as there are still secrets buried beneath the sands of the Pharaohs, secrets yet to be found. Secrets yet to be understood.

But are we ready for them?
